Karen Mitchell, The Care Shed, Counselling & Therapy

Hello, and thanks for visiting my website. If this is your first experience of counselling, well done for taking that first step.

Whether you are here because you are feeling low or depressed, are anxious or stressed, or are seeking clarity around relating to others, I can help you explore your thoughts and feelings in a safe, confidential space. Offering empathy and accepting all that you share in a non-judgemental way, is the basis for forming the trusting relationship between us.

I offer counselling to adults and young people 15 and over, in person and online. I also offer walk and talk therapy if preferred.

I hope that you find the following information useful, but if you would like clarification on anything, please do not hesitate to get in touch.

About Me

I’m a qualified Counsellor, and passionate about good mental health. I’m aware that not feeling mentally well can have a huge impact on our lives; feeling worried, anxious or depressed can be debilitating.

I’m a great listener, I’m warm and friendly and genuinely interested in people. I want what’s best for you and will support you during our time together, helping you to achieve your goals without pressure, in your own time.

I had my first counselling session many years ago, and although I was apprehensive initially, was amazed at the relief I felt after a few sessions. Having that one trusted person who I could be completely honest with, who truly listened to me, and who held no judgement or bias, was just what I needed. My aim is that all my clients get the same experience.

How I Work With You

There is no ‘one size fits all’ in therapy - we are all unique. To address this, I am trained in a number of theories that I can draw upon during our sessions, depending on what is going on for you. These theories help explore both the here and now, and anything that might be stuck in the past.

If you’re interested, my integrative model has a Person Centred / Humanistic core, which helps form the basis of the important therapeutic relationship. I incorporate concepts from Psychodynamic theory which helps me understand unconscious processes, and Transactional Analysis which helps inform me of your way of interacting with those around you. I can also incorporate CBT which aims to challenge and overcome limiting automatic beliefs.

As mentioned above, all sessions are confidential; you can bring whatever you need to without the fear of judgement or hurting anyone’s feelings.

I offer in person and online counselling. I have availability early mornings, and evenings for those who are unable to have sessions during the working day, and I offer limited weekend sessions. I am also available for walk and talk therapy - being out in nature is hugely therapeutic. My aim is to be as flexible as possible and to make sessions as accessible as possible.
